How do you engage with your audience?

In this article, we give you creative ideas so you can learn how to engage with your audience more effectively online and on an app. Web design and user experience are crucial in the process.

Designing mobile apps with our audience in mind is of principal importance. The design aims to provide simple and positive experiences, keeping users loyal to your brand, product or service. In addition, a meaningful user experience within your app allows you to define future customer journeys - and those are central to business success.

Before we go into detail about how to engage your audience we need to define what the target audience is.

Wikipedia provides the following definition: "A target audience is the intended audience or readership of a publication, advertisement, or other message catered specifically to said intended audience. In marketing and advertising, it is a particular group of consumers within the predetermined target market, identified as the targets or recipients for a particular advertisement or message."

Now we now know who our target audience is we can focus on how to engage better with your audience. Three of the most important factors need to be considered and included in the web design:

1. User Experience (UX) research

The aim is finding out your customers (and potential customers) motivations, needs and behaviors. Identify your objectives and goals and work out if you need to adjust your target audience, always keeping an eye on ways to measure ROI. Which of the features will offer your audience the best user experience? Build a prototype to test and this will give you the information which of the features work best and which you’ll need to amend.

2. User personas

Developed back in the 90s, user personas are created to gain powerful insights into a product’s target audience as well as their habits and preferences. And it is a necessity in the process of designing an app. When creating user personas ask the following questions: what are my customers searching for in an app experience? What is the pain point? What problem are they trying to solve? Keep this process running even once your mobile app is live to further understand and manage your personas.

3. User Experience (UX) and User Interface (UI) best practices

One of the most frequent questions our clients ask is “What is good UX?”, “How can I improve my UX design" and "Is there a mobile app UX design process you follow"? Bad user experience design is something that everyone can spot. When you stumble upon a poorly designed product, it’s immediately obvious that something isn’t working – but it’s not always obvious why. We’ve written a detailed blog with five best practices which you can read here.

Are shapes important and colours?

Note: it’s important that mobile app UX and UI processes always need to be observed, updated and improved.

Finally, the last, but certainly the most important for you is the call to action (CTA) field – the opportunity for your audience to purchase, subscribe or contact you.

So, there you have it, our three top tips for engaging your audience! Most importantly, it needs to start with the web design and research into user experience before you start. If you are planning to create a new product, try to follow all of these.

Speaking of your next product, do you have an idea that needs some exploration before it might be ready for development? If so, a Discovery Workshop might be for you, and lucky for you, we’re scheduling free two-hour sessions! Check it out, and I hope to work with you and your team soon.
